What is Sciatica?

Sciatica is one of the most common complaints seen in our chiropractic practice in Orlando. Typically, a sciatica patient comes in with acute pain in the lower back, which radiates down into the buttocks, as well as in the upper and lower leg—often preventing them from doing physical activities or even resting in bed. The direct pressure on the sciatic nerve can lead to painful and crippling symptoms.

What causes Sciatica?

The causes of sciatica can range from a bad posture or movement to trauma and disc herniations. Auto accidents and sports-related activities can also trigger sciatica, which can then lead to a decrease in physical activity—and this can also lead to an increase in weight, as well as depression. Also, bending down the wrong way or improperly lifting household items can cause a herniated disc triggering sciatica.
