What is Arthritis?
Arthritis is an inflammation of the joints and its most common form is osteoarthritis—or arthritis of the joints. Every year, over 3 million Americans are diagnosed with arthritis, affecting people of all ages although it often affects people 50 years of age or older. In fact, there are over 100 types of arthritis that can affect people, producing mild to severe pain and limited physical movement of the affected joints. Other types of arthritis include rheumatoid arthritis (RA), psoriatic arthritis (PsA), and gout.
What causes Arthritis?
For the most part, arthritis results from the wear-and-tear on the joints of the body—particularly in the hands, arms, legs, and back. While arthritis is sometimes a hereditary condition, life trauma and previous injuries can manifest later in life as this ailment. Over time, joint surfaces become rough and start to produce pain, swelling, stiffness, and decreased range of motion. In more severe cases, arthritis can produce nerve impairment and disability of various degrees.
Though not reversible, osteoarthritis symptoms and progression can be slowed significantly. Chiropractic treatment can help maintain the integrity of the joints and have a dramatic impact on the arthritic patient’s lifestyle.
How can I find relief for Arthritis?
While arthritis may not be reversed with conventional medicine, osteoarthritis symptoms and the progression of damage can be slowed significantly with chiropractic treatments. At Kirkman Chiropractic, our goal is to maintain the integrity of the joints, with the objective of improving the lives of patients suffering from arthritis by providing them with a sense of normalcy to living life with less pain.
